Virtual Pfsense Security

Hi all,

Iv been recently looking into putting my pfsense router into a VM as it’s running on really overpowered hardware and I’d like to make use of the spare resources. I have been looking into the security implications of these and have read a lot of the threads here and on Reddit server fault etc.

I wanted to get input from everyone here whether you don’t like the idea or practice it yourself. I’m looking to see what security implications it may bring as it seems to definitely make things more complicated by adding extra things to think about. I would of course take best practice with keeping the host up to date and using separate ports for unfiltered traffic coming into the host for pfsense. But I’d like to also run other vms on this box and the host would be connected to the internet via the lan.
