Does iSCSI initiator and target HAVE to be on the same subnet?

Hi fellow Spiceheads:-)

I recently moved a Windows 2012 VM to a different subnet behind a firewall (the server hosts a GIT repository that is published to the Internet) but since then the iSCSI initiator on the server has been unable to connect to the iSCSI target server. As part of the migration process we opened ports TCP135, UDP138, and TCP3260 thinking this would be all that was needed to enable the initiator to reconnect to the target but, unfortunately, it has not reconnected since the move. In Googling the issue since I found suggestions to open port 3205 and 860 as well so tried those but no change. The firewall logs (PFSense) are showing a successful connection between the initiator and target on port 3260 (no other ports look like they are being accessed) but the initiator still will not connect to the target - gives a...
