I turned an old pc into a router using pfsense. The installation was a breeze, the pc has two NIC's. The first NIC (wan side) connects to the modem router of my DSL line which is always on ( no dialing required ) the DHCP is enabled on this modem router but is not getting a public i.p address instead its getting the i.p from the router 192.168.1.100 so I turned off the DHCP but now its getting a 169 i.p (apipa) . The second NIC connects to a switch which is also getting a private i.p address which is of course expected and not an issue. The only problem is the first NIC that cannot obtain a public i.p.
Should I enable bridge mode on the modem router? If I understand it correctly the bridge mode transfers the authentication of the username and password on the pc side. well I don't have or need a username and password to connect to the...
